THE SWORD EMPRESS
► FLAME ATTRIBUTE & ABILITIESRAIN (PIOGGIA) FLAME:
Ameashi (Passing Shower) [Type: Defensive| Duration: 4 posts| Recharge: 5 posts] This technique draws on the Tranquility of Rain Flame and begins with coating her sword with a thin layer of flames. The weapon is then drawn across in arch, releasing many small droplet-like flames that float in the air around Rin and across the battlefield, similar in appearance to will-of-the-wisps of Japanese legend. At most, it can cover an area with a distance limit of about 15 meters. However, these flames are intentionally spread out much like a web, causing an enemy's limbs or body to slow if they accidentally come into contact with them in their attempt to approach or attack her. For each flame one runs into, the more slowly one moves and presents an opening for an attack.
These flames are stationary and once released cannot move, despite if the owner changes position, though they can cover different surfaces such as air and water. Rin is capable of moving through the field though, in the same way her opponent must, using her agility and flexibility to her advantage. The downside to this technique is that it can only cover an area of about 180 degrees around or in front of the user, and is easily negated if an enemy can get around behind them or is strong enough to force their way through flames. Rin's coverage is also limited, since the larger the area the more flames that are needed and the more energy that must be expended, causing her to tire or collapse as a result of the strain. It also requires a great deal of stamina and focus to maintain, meaning it is ineffective against enemies who can attack from a longer range or that can simply wait out the technique, as it takes time to recharge.
Kakuheki (Barrier Wall) [Type: Defensive| Duration: 2 posts| Recharge: 3 Posts] This technique creates a large wall of Rain Flames that is capable of deflecting attacks and using the Tranquility trait of the flames to extinguish or negate the effects of other flames. While it's size can vary, depending on it's use and need, the ability requires one's own Rain Flames to generate, so the larger the barrier created, the more draining it can be on the user. At it's maximum, Rin only capable of covering an area of about five feet in width and eight feet in height. Any more than this and the barrier can become unstable or to draining on it's users. The biggest downside to this technique, is that it requires concentration and requires the user to remain mentally focused and unable to move while fending off an attack, which can make this a problem when facing more than one opponent. It can also be rather draining during a fight, using more flames for defense, instead of offensive or counter purposes.
LIGHTNING (FULMINE) FLAMES
Shiden (Sword Flash) [Type: Offensive| Duration: 3 posts| Recharge: 4 posts] This technique worked by using Lightning Flames natural ability to Harden materials, solidifying her flames into the shape of blades, which can extend off the surface of something else. These blades can be razor sharp and equivalent in strength to an actual for sword. Most often, they are used to extend off the hand lower arm or hand, with the maximum length extending out about two to three feet. However, they can also be used to coat the blade and tip of the sword, not only hardening the sword, but creating a false end, which is capable of slicing through an opponent. Due to distance from her body and the length it must over though, the extension is much shorter, with it's maximum size being no more than twelve inches at most.
The technique also has a secondary effect, due to being used in combination with Rain Flames, which are known to conduct electricity quite well. This means that those being cut can also receiving a nasty shock, similar to grabbing an open wire. However, which this energy is not dangerous enough to kill, it is capable of causing some nasty electrical burns or internal damage, due to the flow of electricity through the body. The downside to this technique is that it was developed as an assassin's move, making it a very close range technique. This means it can become quite problematic in situations where Rin is unable to move freely. It can also become quite strenuous in used for extended lengths of time or when combat is drawn out.
STORM (TEMPESTA) FLAME
Nenshou Ame (Burning Rain) [Type: Offensive| Duration: 4 post| Recharge: 5 post] This technique is actually quite similar to Ameashi, at least when it comes to general appearance and purpose. However, the technique actually incorporates Lightning and Storm Flames, making these flames much more dangerous than the previous technique. Unlike Ameashi, which consists solely of Rain Flames, the inside of these orbs are Rain Flames that have been wrapped in Storm Flames, which have been hardened by Lightning Flames. An outer coating of Rain Flames gives it the same appearance as Ameashi, making it's various layers similar to a Russian Doll in many ways. When one accidentally runs into one of these clusters of flame, the Nenshou Ame orb will detonate in a small blast that erupts over several feet. However, aside from the initial blast, the Rain Flames contained inside the explosion, immediately harden and are blown outwards like shrapnel in the form of dagger or needle-like blades coated in storm flames, which are meant to pierce an enemy and cause a higher rate of damage. These explosions can also be triggered by Rin, herself, who is capable of controlling the fluctuation levels of flame within the orbs. Aside from appearance, this technique's downside is also quite similar, since Nenshou Ame is limited to a radius of about 15 meters in which it can operate. The orbs are stationary and once they are positioned, Rin is free to move at will. However, if an enemy can avoid the explosive landmine-like flames, escape the enclosed area quick enough, or attack from a distance, then there is a chance the technique can be waited out or avoided.
► BOX WEAPON Namigiri (Wave Cutter) The blade of this Muramasa katana has actually been altered to help Rin gather and channel her Rain Flames into the blade, using them to focus and strengthen her attacks. It's craftsmanship is impeccable and Rin has a habit of fawning over the weapon, often referring to Namgiri as her most prized possession. The weapon's is composed of two parts. First, is the sword which measures about twenty-eight inches in length, without the hilt. A round silver tsuba adorns the weapon, along with a hilt wrapped in black and white silk. The sheath is painted black, with few decorations as a weapon of assassination, aside from the white cord that wraps around the outer sheath to tie to one's belt. While the weapon doesn't appear anymore dangerous than most swords, in Rin's hands the blade is something to be feared as she can demonstrate a great amount of agility and grace with the weapon. The downside, however, is that Namigiri, like many katana, is a close range weapon and isn't as effective in long range battles or opponents.
Attacco di Squalo (Attack of the Shark) [Type: Offensive |Duration: 1 post |Recharge: 2 posts] This technique is rumored to have been passed down from her grandfather and begins with striking an opponent or solid object with powerful blow, which upon contact sends out an osculating wave which rings through an opponents body to stun the muscles. Like ripples through water, Rin uses this technique to cause temporary paralysis of limb and while not permanent is said to be the equivalent to the muscles being hit with a baseball bat. Rain Flames can also be added to the blade to enhance the numbing effects by traveling into an opponents body in the same manner, due to the Tranquility of Rain Flames. However, these effects can be negated to some degree by administering a lesser shock to the muscles or by holding out until the effects being to wear off in about 3-4 posts or around a few minutes. The main downside to this technique, however, is that is relies on one's ability to get close enough to an opponent to make contact. Of course, while the initial move is not fatal, it is often used to create an opening to deliver a finishing blow.
Sameodori (Shark Dance) [Type: Offensive| Duration: 1 post| Recharge: 3 posts] This technique works by gathering Rain Flames onto a single point along the blade of a sword, focusing them and launching them in a series of half a dozen beams, which break apart and scatter out across a field. These beams take on the appearance similar to those of six inch long sharks, which disperse and are capable of attacking multiple opponents at once. They can also hone in on a target to some degree, curving their path to attack to encircle an enemy from different directions. While being hit by these sharks is not fatal, they can still pack a punch and carry a side effect, due to the Tranquility of Rain Flames. A person struck will often feel generalized numbness, slowing an enemy’s muscles and reaction time, as well as lethargic characteristics and feelings of weariness. The severity depends on the number and location of strikes, but it generally meant to dissuade an opponent into surrendering or inhibiting them to finish them off. The downside to this technique is that these shots are not full-proof and can be dodged by seeking cover or out-maneuvering them as they are limited to how far they can change direction. Incapable of turning on a dime, they can also only alter their path once and are limited to a distance of about 25 meters maximum.
► BOX ANIMALGemelli Pioggia Squali (Twin Rain Sharks) When released, this box weapon appears as a pair of Blue Sharks, a species of requiem shark, known for it's speed and tendency to hunt in packs. The two creatures are nearly identical, measuring some 6-7 feet in length and often have their bodies coated in Rain Flames, allowing them to swim freely through the air. Like many sharks, they possess a thick rough hide and appear blue-gray with a white underbelly. Because of their streamlined bodies they can move very quickly and are notorious for attacking an enemy from multiple sides.
Pioggia Frenesia (Rain Frenzy) A move that occurs when the two sharks separate and swim apart from one another to encircle an enemy. They then charge forward at an opponent, each from a different direction. Their main intent is to either ram an enemy with their bodies, hitting them with a dose of Rain Flames or latching onto a target with their razor sharp teeth. Due to the Tranquility attribute of Rain Flames, the opponent rarely feels pain and can experience numbness, lethargic sensation in the limbs hit, or general weariness. However, aside from the bites, the sharks are not large enough to cause fatal injuries and this behavior seems to mirror a natural feeding frenzy by tearing away at an opponent, which earned the technique it's name. The main downside, is that this is a close range attack and physical contact must be made, which can place the box animals in some level of danger as well getting that close.
Panthera the Pioggia Giaguaro (Rain Jaguar) A large male jaguar that stands about three and half feet at the shoulder with a sleek, black melanistic coat which offset a pair of golden yellow eyes. The box animal tops out at over three hundred pounds, with Rain Flames often seen burning around the back of it's ankles and within it's ears, giving it the appearance to tuffs of fur rather than flame. While not as large as some big cats, the creature is all muscles and it's somewhat stocky build means it knows how to throw it's weight around. Unlike her other box weapon, Pathera serves more as Rin's heavy hitter, known more for it's brute strength rather than speed. Besides it's large canine fangs which can do some damage, the creatures also has long razor sharp claws and nasty disposition.
Pioggia Zanna (Rain Fang) This technique typically begins with the box animal coating itself in Rain Flames and charging towards an enemy to pounced on them. Whether a brushing blow or something more secure, the intent is always the same - to grab onto the opponent with the animals fearsome bite or claws and drive them into the ground. However, even a scratch is enough to get some of the intended effect, by injecting and relying on the Tranquility effect of Rain Flames to slow an opponent down. Effects of a bite or scratch can include numbness tingling, sluggish movements from the muscles effects or drowsiness. However, the downside to this technique is that it requires a great deal of physical contact and the strength of the box animal. This can be problematic if an opponent is capable of out-muscle the animal or avoid it's dangerous natural weapons.
► EQUIPMENTYakushin Ame (Onslaught Rain) A weapon reportedly once used by her grandfather, the katana is a Masamune and of exceptionally quality. The sword is not a box weapon, although due to the swords versatile nature, can be used either with or without the Dying Will Flames. In appearance, the sword is carried in sheath covered in dark blue lacquer that is polished to a shine. The hilt of the katana is wrapped in ray-skin with a similar deep blue silk wrap around the handle, along with a round tsuba with cherry blossom designs across it. The blade of the weapon demonstrates a unique hamon or ripple along the sword's edge, resembling sharp curved teeth, similar to those of a shark. The weapon means a great deal to Rin, both due to it's family history and that it was actually a gift from her boss. While great efforts were taken to restore the sword to it's beautiful condition, it remains a normal weapon, despite the option to upgrade the weapon into one with special abilities. However, due to it's sentimental significance, Rin has chosen to leave the blade as is. She tends to keep the weapon close at hand, often carrying the weapon in a black sword bag, similar to the ones used to carry kendo equipment to conceal it and prevent the weapon from drawing to much attention from the unsuspecting public.
Sword Cleaning Kit- Often kept in a small pouch, this handful of supplies is what keeps Rin's weapon in such good shape. Whenever she has free time, tends to spend it tending to her weapon, a habit for which she is obsessive about, but seems to take a great deal of enjoyment in.
