No matter what his demonic tutor, Reborn, the Arcobaleno of the Sun told him. When Reborn told him that Vongola the Ninth had approved of a new Vongola family, the Neo Vongola, he was even more adamant against it than ever. However, as time passed and Tsunayoshi grew more and more mature, he gradually began to accept his role in the mafia world. He became Neo Vongola Primo, a boss that Primo of the original Vongola would have been proud of. However, no matter how good and benevolent that Tsunayoshi had become in the mafia world there was no end to the enemies he made.

When the name of boss was passed onto a relative of Tsunayoshi, to Neo Vongola Secondo, the enemies that Tsunayoshi had acquired over his extensive rule as Primo seemed to come out of the wood work to try to take over the family, believing that Secondo was a weak successor and would be easy to overpower. They were wrong, Secondo managed to push off any assault that his enemies pushed against him. However, in a way, they were correct. Secondo was weak, emotionally. As the assassination attempts continued, Secondo's health began to fail under the stress of it all. Eventually, he passed away without naming a successor.

Two potential successors rose from the ashes of Secondo's rule - both descendants of Tsunayoshi Sawada. They both had a blood claim to who would be boss. Rather than challenge each other through a Ring battle, they split the Neo Vongola down the middle, causing schism that would span several generations.

It is the sixth generation and the Neo Vongola family is still divided. However, divided they are weak. Rival families continue their vendettas against the Neo Vongola family and aim to take it over. If only each side could get over their petty differences. (Note - this would be considered the sixth generation of Neo Vongola; however, it is only the fourth generation for Giorno and Notte. The Terzo Generation of the Neo Vongola would be the result of a successor finally being chosen.)

With the Vongola split down the middle and rival families continuing their vendettas that have spanned generations, the families are nearing their limit of how much more they can take. While it seems like the Notte and Giorno Vongolas will never get over their rivarly over which side should be the true Terzo of the entire Neo Vongola family, the Varia on the other hand have remained strong and neutral on both sides, as requested by Secondo who had once been a member of their ranks. On the other hand, CEDEF has chosen a side - Giorno - in a belief that Terzo should be powerful enough to withstand assaults by rival families while holding together the pieces of Vongola. While CEDEF chooses Giorno, Cavallone, has chosen the Notte in belief that power is not the only thing needed to be a leader.

Both families hold an annual meeting, in hopes that a decision can be made as to who should be the true successor to Secondo's reign. However, no agreement is ever made. Notte and Cavallone believe that their heir should be Terzo while CEDEF and Giorno believe that theirs should be Terzo. Usually, these meetings end in a scream fest with each side at each other's throats. The latest one was the final straw for the Varia, Shimon and their respective leaders. After a few heads were bashed about by the Varia leader and much snarling on his part, he declared that if neither could decide than a Ring Battle would and then the Rings would decide. The winner of the Sky battle would have first dibs on being tested by the ring. The Varia captain would fetch the rings and offer them to the winner for the rings to test their resolve and see if they were accepted. If rejected by the ring, the loser of the Ring battle will be tested. The one accepted by the ring will be the official Terzo of the family; however, they would not be taking their own guardians. The winners of each battle before would be guardians. The Terzo family would be a mix of Giorno and Notte guardians as a way to begin mending and the losers would take the place of 'secondary' guardians, a position not quite as powerful and prestigious as the primary guardians, but none-the-less, would be very coveted by anybody else.

In the mafia world, those who control Flames of the Sky are considered to be some of the most powerful people. The bosses of each family have a Sky flame. As far as the mafia is concerned, there isn't a person in the mafia world in a place of power without a flame. While most families have been started by somebody with a flames, there has never been a family who would take on a successor who doesn't have a flame within.

As one might be able to assume, this is causing problems between the flame users and those who don't use the dying will flame. Non-users are finally getting fed up with being powerless against the flame users and have come together to create a family of their own; the Annullare(Void) family. This family is a family in which those without flames can come and have power.

The Annullare specialize in weapons and technology. One of their technological developments is the carenza di proiettile - deficiency bullet. This bullet is made to seal Dying Will flames for a short amount of time during combat.

Neo Shimon


Nobody's sure exactly when it happened but Shimon's inheritance was supplanted. The true heirs to the Earth flames were scattered, not knowing about their blood-right. The current head of Shimon, Saverio Kozato, is a traitor to the mafia. He works with the Annularre and has had his former guardians assassinated, replaced with imposters using technology to mimic flames. He's intentionally trying to sow as much discord as possible within the Vongola and only has one loose end remaining, his younger brother Jio. Jio Kozato fled from Italy when he realized his brothers treachery and is now hiding in Japan. His goal is to reveal Saverio to the mafia but this is made harder by his brother managing to have Jio himself declared a traitor, claiming he broke Omerta. Now Jio is on the run, wanted by all good Mafia families while he also seeks the other Earth Flame users.
