In fact, he had been looking forward to his first year of High School for quite a while. One thing he wasn't counting on, was how difficult the work would be. He sat in the surprisingly quiet classroom, and gazed at the textbook in front of him. He wore a sour expression as he looked at the pages, turning and flipping through them as he mouthed the English words inside the pretty hefty book. How could these people even have the effort to transport these things between school and home?
He held his breath, being careful not to let out that angry sigh that would break the silence. Instead, he bit his lips lightly and forced a small smile in place of the confusion. It was only the beginning, how bad could this year really be? He lifted his black writing pen from it's resting place, opening up the notebook beside the textbook with care. Taking the pen, he wrote carefully on the lined paper..
You can make it, the first year is always the hardest. But once you get to the second year, you'll be storming off to victory, ne? His handwriting was light, and teachers had often complained about the lightness. He honestly didn't see the problem as he studied the writing carefully. But maybe it was instinct to try to make excuses for your faults, or he just had really good eyesight.
Sooner or later, the bell that signaled the end of the school day rang and the kids stood almost instantly in response. Though, Shou was too focused or rather withdrawn as he looked at the textbook with a hand placed on his cheek, the only thing keeping him from hitting his head on the desk. He stood up, moments later after everyone had already left and closed the textbook and sighed. At least their wasn't any awkward silence he could break now, "Now I can understand why the lazy people leave their books at school.." |
As he quickly stepped back to back out of the seat, he felt his leg get caught on something. His first instinct was to yell "Shit!" as he fell backwards, but he was cut off from finishing as landed on the floor, rubbing the back of his head. His feminine voice being quite clear as he lectured himself, "You need to be careful, you baka! Tripping and almost cursing! Unforgivable!" He opened his eyes, feeling dizziness blur his vision as he tried to lift himself up. [/style]

made by kiwii at btn and gs!

Being at the school always made her feel normal. It was the only place that didn't leave any visible traces of the mafia. The school wasn't without its students that were guardians for families but compared to the regular everyday students they were the minority. The school definitely gave her a sense of normalcy among all her agenda that had to do with the mafia. It was the one place she could go and not worry about flames and family business.
Did she wish to be normal? Sometimes she while she was grading papers and tests she would think about what it would be like to be normal. What was being normal anyway? No one was ever really normal and who set the rules for being so anyway. What she really thought about is what it might be like to not have any knowledge of flames and that the mafiaso existed at all. It was always felt weird to her so she'd stop thinking about it for a while.
So there she was sitting off to the side in a chair as she waited for the end of class. She had already assigned the class their work after going over everything and wasn't too quick to erasing things up on the board. She didn't want to do so and have students get flustered over it because they were using it still. It was so much easily to write down notes but not all of her students actually did that. She looked up at the clock and walked back over to the front of the classroom since the final bell was about to ring.
The classroom representative led the class in a bow to her and she naturally returned it. Just like that it was the end of the school day and her students grabbed their things to leave. The room was left with very few students who were just straying before going home or to clubs. They were just standing around talking but her eyes fell upon one student who was still sitting at his desk. It was her youngest student. He was younger than all the other students, for sure, and had been smart enough to start high school a year early.
He got up to leave though after closing his text book and putting it away. It almost looked like he was having a bit of a problem doing part of his assignment. That was okay though because this was a high school English class and there was most likely some words he didn't understand. She watched though as he awkwardly got caught on something as he tried to step away from his desk and fell flat on his ass. She had to hold back a snicker as she heard him start scolding himself for tripping and apparently almost cursing. Well at least he was thoughtful. Other students usually could care less about cussing while in the school building.
The white haired woman didn't really leave any time for him to scold himself any further. He seemed to be having a tiny bit of a problem getting back up from his butt plant. She made her way over to him and helped him up. It would have been a bit cruel had she have left him to trying to get up on his own especially from what she could tell he was having kind of a difficult time doing. Teachers were supposed to be nice after all unless they were dealing with the trouble children or the skippers.
"You should be more careful, Suzuki-kun." Silvia said offering him a smile. "Did you have any questions about your assignment, Suzuki-kun?" She continued to see if he'd actually ask for help now that she was asking him.

School. He honestly didn't like going to school anymore. He used to enjoy going to school when he was a kid. After his mother died and his step mother had stepped in...school had been a better place for him to be, although, not by much. He had been subject to bullying during his primary school years because of his habit of carrying around stuffed animals and being a boy. Boys weren't supposed to like stuffed animals or cute things. He'd lost many a stuffed animal to the bullying of older and always bigger boys.
While he didn't have that problem as much now that he was in high school and nearing his final years of having to go to the school, he still didn't much care for the place at all. He did, however, go to school every so often for a few straight days to catch up on everything - mostly tests. Some of his classmates often picked up any papers he needed because well...he was cute and not many people could say 'no' to cuteness, especially to something as simple as grabbing a second assignment to give to him. Towards the end of each marking period, he would go daily for a week to catch up on everything. It was how he maintained his B - C average.
Today was simply one of those days he actually went - whether it was to make up a test or simply for the sake of going. He was one of the older students in many of his classes, having only caught up on one year of school during his nearly two-year hiatus when he'd been on the run from an abusive household. His adoptive parents had fabricated the story that he had simply started school a year later than most. As far as the school knew - he wasn't even adopted. Sheeka Riva, the child of single male parent Alessandro Riva and adopted son from a 'step-father' Celino Arcoh. His adoption by Alessandro wasn't exactly legal, after all. No adoption papers filed...nothing. If it ever came down to anybody finding out...he was afraid of what would happen to him and to the men who had opened up their hearts and home to a scrawny kid they had stumbled across on the streets trying to pick-pocket them to survive. While it wasn't likely anything would happen - his real father and step-mother had never filed a missing child report, after all - he was still worried something would happen.
The sound of the bell was a grateful relief to the small shota, who had spent most of his class sitting at his desk at the back of a row of desks next the window, pretending to pay attention while he was actually paying attention to a needle and thread as he worked on sewing together an ear back onto a stuffed lion that some jerk had ripped off earlier in the day. He was used to the occasional bully tormenting his stuffed animals. Damage done to his precious stuffed animals was easily fixed.
Sheeka was rather slow after the bell ran, he had to put his sewing kit away, after all. Shoving the yellow thread back into its case along with the needle and a bunch of other colors, Sheeka gathered his things, pushing them into the bag and leaving his English book under his desk - it was obnoxiously heavy. Hugging the stuffed lion to himself, he rose from his seat to get ready to leave when he heard scolding and a near curse word. Weaving his way through the desks towards the fallen boy - Sheeka remembered his name as Suzuki Shou, one of the younger and brighter students of school - and offered his hand to help him up. "Are you alright, Shou-chan?" he questioned, tilting his head slightly. The owner of the voice wasn't familiar to him at first and as his vision cleared he realized who it was. Still struggling to get up, he blushed intensely at how pathetic he must of looked. While he didn't take the hand of the student, he felt someone else lift him back up and sighed with relief. He looked up to see his teacher, Fausti-sensei. She had helped him up before he could even think of taking up the other student's, Sheeka Riva, offer for help. Sheeka had been absent often, which was probably why the younger student hadn't recognized his voice at first. Sheeka had used his first name instead of his last and added the honorific normally used for younger children and teenage girls. At the realization, his light blush had grown to a brighter shade once again and he felt a sudden pain in his chest.
He tried to force out words to respond to them, but he couldn't. Only a pain in his chest kept him from responding politely. He closed his eyes and shook his head lightly. "I.. I'm alright, Riva-san," |
he said quietly. He opened his eyes and turned his attention towards the teacher. "I'm sorry, Sensei. You're right, I should've been more careful," he replied with a small smile as he looked to the side, avoiding eye contact. He still felt the pain in his chest, keeping him from acting normally. The feeling felt strange. She then asked if he had needed help on his assignment. While the smarter and more intelligent students would probably laugh this question off to mask their troubles, Shou actually considered it. English wasn't his best subject, and some of the other things in his class kept him thinking more than the average person. He was a slow learner, but more dedicated and deeper thinking than the rest. He nodded as he placed his small hands behind his back and kept them there. He wasn't sure if the act was feminine or not, it just felt natural and helped him deal with others for some odd reason. "I'm not very good with other languages, but I'm sure everyone else struggles with them too. English is just too.. too weird. Too many variations and changes in their language, it's hard to tell what's current or old fashioned," he said the words slowly, hearing his soft voice made him feel awkward. It made him worry, would anyone else realize this feminine side of him, or was he just freaking out over nothing? "The sentence structure is weird to me, and I can't really pinpoint where my troubles are. It's hard to read the textbook too, I'm used to speaking it." [/style]

made by kiwii at btn and gs!

Ah, there was a face that she wasn't used to seeing. Sheeka Riva was someone that didn't normally come to class although she was never sure of the reason. He probably spent his time with his friend Rai who also barely went to school and she was sure there was something else going on. She wasn't sure or positive but something about those two made her think about the mafioso. It might have been the fact that they hang out with Rin too who she knew for a fact had connections to the mafioso because she was the granddaughter of Squalo after all.
She had noticed that Sheeka had been there at the beginning of class but didn't comment or anything about it. She had preferred just continuing on with class after doing a quick roll call. It was something she liked to do especially when it was after the lunch period or a while after the lunch period. That was her way of making sure people who might have been there before were still there or not. She could take the time to comment on his appearance at school today now that it was just the three of them. She was still the guidance counselor after all and it was her job to scold the students who didn't show up to school. She couldn't really say much about him though because he at least managed to keep his grades up while skipping a lot.
He had wondered over to Shou when he had noticed that he had fell and offered a hand to him. Shou still seemed to disoriented at the time to even decide to take the hand that he was offered. He was asked by Sheeka if he was alright with a tilt of his head to the side. It took Shou a moment to find his voice apparently and he spoke to Sheeka first telling him that he was alright addressing him by his last name while tacking a -san in on the end of it. She was the next one to get a response as he settled himself after being helped up by her. He apologized to her, which she couldn't help producing a small smirk at, and said she was right about him needing to be careful. It was kind of cute that he was apologizing about not being careful.
"Don't apologize, Suzuki-kun. You didn't do anything wrong." Silvia said with a small smile coming onto her face. "But Riva-kun here. He should be apologizing big time." She continued as she looked at him while placing a hand on her hip and huffing a bit.
It was true though. Sheeka hardly ever came to school so he wasn't being a good student even if he kept his grades up. He was just setting a poor example for the rest of the students and so was his friend Rai. She didn't need any other students deciding it was okay to skip class and it had been a while since she was able to make an example of it. Ryuu used to skip class and she'd leave the school just to drag him by the ear there. If she needed to start doing that again with these students who were skipping all the time then so be it. She didn't need to be made out to be foolish as the guidance counselor.
Shou didn't answer her question right off the bat but took a moment or two to do so. He seemed to be debating whether or not to admit that he didn't understand what the assignment had been over. His response came not long after he placed his arms behind his back. He told her, and indirectly Sheeka, that he wasn't very good at other languages and this brought a smile onto her face. Not that fact that he was bad at other languages but that he admitted it and he was really talking to the right person. Yeah, she was the English teacher but she knew all kinds of languages because she loved learning them. It also helped to insult Ryuu if she didn't want him to know what she was saying. She used to do that a lot when she was younger. Shou went on to say that English was just weird and that he didn't understand a lot of things about it. It was definitely a weird language and she'd never deny that statement but it was one that would be good to know. She nodded her head as he continued on to say that the sentence structure was weird so he couldn't really pinpoint his trouble and that he had an easier time speaking the language than he did reading it. That actually surprised her because it was usually the other way around. Students could read it but couldn't speak it very well at all.
"Well don't forget Suzuki-kun that I'm here to help you and the other students too. I've been speaking and reading English for a long time as well as others" Silvia explained to him with a smile. "Do you have any after school activities, Suzuki-kun? I'll help you with your assignment with Riva-kun here so that you can have a better understanding." She continued with a grin as she threw a look at Sheeka, that's what he gets for skipping so much.

He wasn't having as many issues with English as some of the other students. He attributed that to the fact he had been taught some English by his adoptive parents while they were teaching him Japanese. Italian was Sheeka's first language, after all.
He was a little bit behind when it came to English; however, he wasn't behind enough for it to be considered a problem. So after making sure Shou was alright, Sheeka was going to leave...until Silvia mentioned that he should be apologizing big time. Eh? Why? Probably because he was missing so much school. She was also the guidance counselor if he recalled...so she kind of had to interrogate him as to why he missed so much school. He didn't have a valid reason at all to be missing school to be honest. "Hmn...I guess I do miss a lot of school..." Sheeka stated vaguely, tilting his head to the side.
Sheeka had missed his chance to leave when Silvia offered to help Shou with his english. Why did he have to stay?! Sheeka scowled lightly and pouted in annoyance at the fact he now had to stay after school. Maybe when she wasn't looking he could replace himself with an illusion and sneak out the window? He eyed the window for a brief moment and sighed. Oh well. It wouldn't be that long...and with the extra time he had to stay in school...who knows, he might not even come to school the next day because of the extra time he was spending there. Probably not the greatest logic in the world...
"Do I haaave to stay, Fausti-senseei?" Sheeka asked, pouting slightly. "What if I had things to do after school?" Like. Making sure Rai hadn't gotten himself killed or injured while he was away? He was Rai's self-proclaimed babysitter, after all. He knew it wouldn't happen...but he needed to come up with an excuse to leave...not that it was going to work. Another moment or two of thinking about it and eventually he sighed in defeat and grabbed his English book from under his desk and sat at one of the desks closer to the front of the room. "I really don't have anything to do after school..." he eventually admitted quietly. "I mean, unless Raitaro has something planned for us to do..." The only thing they could really be doing would be trying to find the rest of the Mare rings and maybe try to find more guardians for the Spiaggia.
