Casval was the result of a short-lived fling between a Russian university student and a certain member of the Varia. His mother had given birth to him during her third year of school. Because of this, she was faced with a difficult decision: choose between her child or her education. Ultimately, she chose to give up school and raise her child as a single mother, too embarrassed to turn to her parents for help. Life as a college dropout was difficult, especially in such a populated area in Russia. His mother worked two jobs, barely scraping enough money to support the two of them. To pay for rent, utilities, necessities, and a babysitter required most of her earnings. The first four years of Casval's life were empty, with his mother sometimes never showing up due to the number of jobs she was juggling. Things changed shortly after. Although Casval's mother was indeed juggling several jobs during his first few years of life, she was also dating a struggling business entrepreneur. By his fourth birthday, he had moved into their cramped apartment. With a meager, but extra source of income to support them, Casvals' mother could afford to spend more time with just one job, but also more time to raise her son. As a child, Cas was wild and unruly. Prone to fights at school against older and larger bullies, he dished out and received own fair share of beatings. It was through these series of fights that his flames of wrath eventually manifested. News his exceptionally rare wrath flames quickly reached the Varia. Xanxus, already knowing of at least one illegitimate grandson, now knew of another. The Varia, being more than adept at this sort of work, quickly tracked down Casval and his family, eventually coming to their front door. Casval's mother, who had since then married her boyfriend, was confused and alarm by this sudden turn of events. Even after being briefed and given what little information the Varia agents were able to provide, she still knew very little about the man who had sired her son. But she had an inkling of a feeling that he would be better off living with them than in a dingy little apartment, and gave him up to live with his grandfather. Upon beginning his new life as a Varia trainee, Casval became acquainted with his half-brother, Arashi. The two were trained under the tyranny of their grandfather, Xanxus, as well as the other Varia guardians to become the captain. Their training regimen was grueling and ruthless, with the two of them constantly pitted against each other for sparring matches. To this day, Arashi and Casval remained evenly matched, with many of their fights ending in draws, but also an equal number of wins and losses for the both of them. Eventually they came to officially join the ranks of the Varia at age eleven. When the time came to assume control of the Varia, the two were pitted against each other in a fight to determine who would be the leader. This determining fight lasted for a long time, with neither side giving the other any quarter. This too, ended in a draw, with both of their weapons poking at each other's necks. Casval, realizing that he lacked the proper motivation to be the leader of the Varia, conceded to Arashi, thus handing him the title of the Varia's leader. He had also opted not to assume the role of the Varia's vice captain, relinquishing that to Kaoru. Instead, he became the Varia's storm guardian. In way, this decision also benefited the Varia, as Cas almost always used his storm flames while keeping his sky flames secretly well-practiced. As a result, he was in a way, the Varia's secret weapon, due to the fact they now had two wrath flame users. This decision would come to benefit him in ways he had not considered before. After realizing the amount of paperwork the Varia captain had to deal with, he was fully satisfied with his decision. He often poked fun at Arashi for having to deal with the tedious work despite having the tendency to pile them up on the vice captain to deal with. This gave Casval more time to pursue other hobbies, most notably mixing drinks. This prompted Casval to open up a nightclub both as a way to satisfy his hobby, and as both an extra source of income and another meeting place for mafia-related business. Since his induction into the Varia, Casval has severed all ties with his family back in Russia. This is in an attempt to prevent them being linked with him so that they may not be taken hostage and used against him. However, he still keeps tabs on them. For a few years he donated a hefty portion of his own paycheck from work in the Varia and his nightclub in small increments to his family under the disguise of government welfare checks. This continued on until Cas' stepfather was able to build a successful business, after which the amount he donated to them decreased now that they had a stable and substantial income. ► inventory check "MIDNIGHT RAVEN" ► AFFILIATION Varia – Storm Guardian ► ALIGNMENT Chaotic Neutral ► FLAME ATTRIBUTE & ABILITIES Flame of Wrath (Sky-Storm) Blood Root - sangue radice; Using the storm flame portion of his sky flames, Casval condenses and extends the flames in the form of what looks like tendrils or even plant roots. This ability is omnidirectional, meaning Cas can cover all 360 degrees around him. The storm flame tendrils can also branch off and form new ones extending from the larger ones to the point where if given enough time, the surrounding area around Cas looks like it's covered in a network of red roots, or even blood vessels with the branching tendrils appearing like capillaries. Given the destructive nature of both his Storm and Wrath Flames, it's something most opponents would do well to avoid. Use of this ability requires a large amount of concentration to maintain. Duration: Varies between 1 to 6 posts depending on what he is using it for. His concentration can be broken if an attack makes it through the network of tendrils or if he simply loses interest and prematurely ends it. Cool Down: Varies depending on how long it's used, between 1-9 posts. Range: The Blood Root covers a range of up to 50 meters. ► BOX WEAPON Storm Nodachi - Although Casval first started training with a standard katana, he eventually came to adopt the longer and heavier nodachi crafted by Squalo. He is more than familiar with the idiosyncrasies of such a non-standard weapon and is more than capable of compensating for them.
