How did it come to this? "On the white will be playing participant Honshou. On the black..." Ah, yes, of course. He remembered telling Masataka of his surprising skill in chess, and later even had Shirotsume-sensei watch as he even had a chess game with his friend, proving victorious thrice in a row using the black figures. He could acknowledge the fact Sensei looked for skilled chess players, and more than respect that -- but why did it have to be him? Kitami was a busy student, as the captain of the soccer club, a member of the drama club, a high-school student nearing on finals for his Junior year - right before the so desired winter-break and the last semester, and even a member of the rising Indie Rock band FanDom. Today specifically happened to be free, and he wouldn't laze around school in place of participating, plus this whole contest thing earned him a justified day off classes. But the person he was up against was... "... will be playing participant Superbi. Feel free to start the clock whenever you want and start your game." ... Rin Superbi. A considerably infamous name around school for a few illegitimate reasons, and also a Senior on the same school Kitami was attending. Now this, was a serious drag. Aside for the fact Kitami found this woman to be rather cute, one of the top in school too, it was rather annoying to think he was up against someone of his own school in a chess match. What's the point in that? Namimori High won't get any points like this! What's more, it's the second match a member of this school's improvised team had against someone from the same team. The more disturbing part about this match though, was the fact Kitami had already acknowledged his loss at the hands of the beauty, and doubtlessly, he started the game by just pressing on the red button on top of his clock'sside. It started silently ticking immediately after, Rin's side rising as his fell. With a polite arc, he bowed, a slight smile on his face. That was not bliss - as usual - but more frustration... Poor Kitami. He never had problems with confidence too, so why now... "Superbi-Senpai, it's an honor to have a match with you. Be gentle, okay?" A small chuckle escaped Kitami's lips as he gave in a small gag to lighten up his own mood. In his head, many times the phrase "You will lose" repeat, decreasing his will to play significantly. What he did take interest in though, was the player in-front; why would Shirotsume-Sensei pick her too? She had to be good, to impress that old jeeb... With that in mind, Kitami peacefully lifted the Pawn soldier in-front of the queen and placed it two squares after, accordingly to the most accepted opening moves and to the rules concerning Pawns' moving patterns. He started, there was nothing he could do to stop the match now. "Are you familiar with Shirotsume-Sensei?" He asked, pressing his side's red platform-like button again, the square lifted up as the opposing players' clock started ticking. Small talk here and there won't hurt, at least, until one of the supervisors comes to silence the two. [/style] |
